What to expect
Starting something new can bring a mix of curiosity, uncertainty and hope. You don’t need to have all the answers before you arrive.
Whether you’re seeking help with a particular concern or simply feel ready for change - this is a gentle place to start.
Your first session
Before anything else, Jo will have a conversation with you. She'll take time to understand what's brought you here, what you've been carrying, and what you're hoping to find on the other side of it. There's no rush and no checklist. It's simply a space to be heard.
An assessment will then be carried out which includes a posture check and palpating the spine to identify blockages. Jo will make gentle contacts at the sacrum, spine and cranium while you lie fully clothed on a therapy table. Sessions are quiet and unhurried. Some people feel warmth, a sense of movement or deep relaxation. Others notice emotions arising and passing. Whatever comes up is welcome.
Everybody is different
There's no single way to experience Spinal Flow. Some people feel a significant shift after their first session. For others, the changes are more gradual, unfolding quietly over a course of sessions as the nervous system learns to let go of patterns it has held for years. Both are completely normal, and both are valid.
After your session
It’s common to feel deeply relaxed, unusually tired and even euphoric after a session. This is your body integrating the work. Don’t be alarmed if you find that pre-existing symptoms are exacerbated either - this is a healing reaction and very common for some people.
Where possible, try to take it easy for the rest of the day. Drink plenty of water, spend time in nature if you can and simply notice how you feel in the days that follow.
A note on the process
Spinal Flow is not a quick fix. Real, lasting change in the nervous system takes time and consistency. Most clients begin with a course of sessions to give their body the best chance to shift, soften, and settle. Jo will guide you on what feels right for you as you go.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
There's no fixed answer, and that's the point. Spinal Flow works best when you listen to your own body rather than follow a schedule. Many people find a few sessions close together help most at first, then space them out as they feel the benefit. Some come when tension or stress builds, others return regularly because it helps them feel balanced and grounded. You're always welcome, and the pace is always yours.
-
Yes. Spinal Flow is extremely gentle and many pregnant women find it deeply supportive, particularly for stress, tension, and the physical changes that come with each trimester. Please let Jo know you're pregnant when you book so she can tailor the session appropriately.
-
Yes. Children often respond beautifully to Spinal Flow, sometimes even faster than adults. It is completely safe and non-invasive. A parent or guardian is required to stay in the room throughout the session.
-
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is ideal. Avoid jeans or spandex. You'll remain fully clothed throughout the session, so there's no need to bring anything special or get changed.
-
Not at all. The touch used in Spinal Flow is very light. Most people find sessions deeply relaxing. If at any point you feel uncomfortable, just let Jo know and she will adjust.
-
Chiropractic and physiotherapy work primarily with the physical structure of the body. Spinal Flow works with the nervous system, addressing the underlying tension patterns that can drive physical symptoms in the first place. There is no manipulation or adjustment involved. The two approaches can complement each other well.
